“Brian, you are amazing.  I’ve had several windsurfing lessons over the years,
but I’ve never been
able to get in the foot straps until today.  I made it!

Thank you, thank you thank you,…”
Bill E., Boston MA

Safety Protocols

Kiteboarding in The Columbia River Gorge has inherent risks that affect kiteboarders.  It is your responsibility the rules and be familiar with the safety procedures and protocols about kiteboarding in the Gorge.  If you have any questions, ask.

Risks include but are not limited to:

The River
The Columbia River changes temperature throughout the season.  Early spring is cold, September is warmer.  Hypothermia risks are present, even during the warmer months.  The river has different current speeds depending on the time of year and the dam activity.  The river carries debris including stumps, logs, branches, and lost fishing gear. Debris is not always noticeable.  The river also has a marked shipping channel and is a throughway for river barges.

The Shore
The shore often attracts onlookers and visitors including small children and pets.  At times the shores can be very crowed.  Riders of all abilities are using the same beaches and waters.  Be very careful about kite lines and always stay upwind of other riders who are rigging, launching and landing.

The Wind
Winds in the Gorge are often gusty and sometimes unpredictable.  Wind can be high (called “nuking”) and suddenly shut off.

School Certification--Kiteboarding
We are a PASA certified kiteboarding school.  Per the terms of our insurance and accreditation, we operate lessons in wind speeds of up to 25mph winds.  All classes scheduled with greater wind speeds will be cancelled, and a class will be canceled if the student is not comfortable with the conditions.

Reservations
To reserve your lesson, credit card payment is required.
Walkups are not guaranteed a lesson during the busy days (weekends, mid-summer).

Weather Cancellations
If a lesson is cancelled because of weather conditions, we will re-schedule your lesson. If you live within a 200 mile radius of Hood River, your lesson credit will remain good for one (1) year. If you live outside of a 200 mile radius of Hood River, your lesson will be refunded, at your request.

If you show up late for your scheduled lesson and the lesson has already started, you will lose that portion of the lesson’s credit. If the lesson has gone farther than you can safely join when you arrive, you will forfeit the entire credit for the lesson (does not apply to private lesons).  If the instructor is late, up to 30 minutes past scheduled start time, we reserve the right to extend the lesson by the same time amount.

No Show
If you do not show up and do not call to cancel or re-schedule, you will lose your prepaid lesson payment. No exceptions.
